01 Narrator 1: The birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way.
02 Narrator 2: God sent the angel Gabriel to a town in Galilee called Nazareth.
03 Narrator 1: There was a young woman named Mary living in the town who was engaged to a man named Joseph.
04 Narrator 2: The angel came to her and said:
05 Gabriel: Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.”
06 Narrator 1: But she was very troubled by his words, and wondered what kind of greeting this was.
07 Gabriel: Don’t be afraid Mary, for you have found favor with God. You will give birth to a son and you will name him Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High!
08 Narrator 1: Then Mary said:
09 Mary: Here I am, the servant of the Lord; let it happen to me just as you have said.
10 Narrator 2: When Joseph learned that Mary was pregnant, he decided to call off the wedding quietly. But just when he determined to do this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said:
11 Angel 2: Joseph—don’t be afraid to take Mary as your wife. The baby she will have is from the Holy Spirit. And when he is born, you will call him Jesus—for he will save his people from their sins.
12 Narrator 2: Now about this time, Caesar Augustus, the Emperor of Rome, required that a list be made of everyone in the world. Mary and Joseph had to go to the town of Bethlehem to be counted.
13 Narrator 1: And while they were there, Mary gave birth to her first child, a son. She wrapped him in a blanket and laid him in a manger—a feed box for animals—because there was no room for them in the village inn.
14 Narrator 2: That night some shepherds were in the fields outside the village, guarding their flocks of sheep. Suddenly an angel appeared to them and said:
15 Angel 3: “I bring you good news for all people. Today a Savior has been born in the town of Bethlehem. You will find the baby wrapped in a blanket, lying in a manger!”
16 Narrator 1: Then the whole sky was filled with angels who called out:
17 All Angels: Glory to God in the highest! And peace to his people on earth!
18 Narrator 2: When the angels left, the shepherds said to one another:
19 All Shepherds: Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this!
20 Narrator 2: So they ran to the village and found Mary and Joseph. And there was the baby, lying in a manger.
21 Narrator 1: Later some wise men from eastern lands arrived asking,
22 Magi 1: Where is the newborn King of the Jews?
23 Magi 2: We saw his star rising…
24 Magi 3: …and have come to honor him.
25 Narrator 2: King Herod heard about this and was very upset. He didn’t want there to be any king but him.
26 Narrator 1: When the wise men found the house where the baby and Mary were, they bowed down and worshipped him.
27 Narrator 2: Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts:
28 Magi 1: Gold…
29 Magi 2: Frankincense…
30 Magi 3: …And myrrh.
31 Narrator 2: All who heard of this story were amazed…
32 Narrator 1: …and Mary treasured all these things in her heart.
AWAY IN A MANGER (Chorus or Cast sing)
Away in a manger
No crib for His bed
The little Lord Jesus
Lay down His sweet head
The stars in the sky
Look down where He lay
The little Lord Jesus
Asleep on the hay
The cattle are lowing
The poor Baby wakes
But little Lord Jesus
No crying He makes
I love Thee, Lord Jesus
Look down from the sky
And stay by my side
'Til morning is nigh
Be near me, Lord Jesus
I ask Thee to stay
Close by me forever
And love me, I pray
Bless all the dear children
In Thy tender care
And take us to Heaven
To live with Thee there
