In a circle, tell the class: “I’m going to say my name with a made-up gesture, and I want you to repeat it”, e.g., you say “Tom” as you pat yourself on the head, and the class repeats your name and gesture.
Then ask the student on your right to say their name with a made-up gesture, and invite everyone to repeat it, e.g., the student says “Jennifer” as she bows, and the class echoes the name and the movement.
Next say, “Let’s see if we can repeat both of those, starting with me,” and lead the group in saying “Tom” with a head pat, followed by “Jennifer” with a bow.
Encourage the next person in the circle to say their name with a gesture, and lead everyone in repeating it.
Once again, say, “Let’s do all three, starting with me,” and lead the group in saying each of the names with their corresponding gestures. Continue this way around the circle until everyone has added their name and gesture, and the group has recited all the names and gestures from memory.
