Show the students a square of plain white fabric–five to six feet on a side. Tell them–although it looks like a simple piece of cloth–it’s actually magic, because it can turn into all kinds of other things.
Demonstrate using the cloth as a prop–representing some other object. For example, put it over your head as a wedding veil and pretend to walk down the aisle; or use it as a bullfighter’s cape –always acting out the appropriate scenario.
Now ask the students if they have an idea for what the magic cloth could become. Stress that, with their imaginations, they can make it anything–as long as it’s not simply a piece of material.
Let them come on to the stage one by one and act out a scene–using the cloth as a different imagined object. Have the other students guess what that object might be.
Suggested Ideas: A superhero’s cape, a baby wrapped in a blanket, a sail on a boat, a cast on a broken limb, a blanket for a picnic, etc.
